Osteoporosis & Osteopenia

People can have osteoporosis without any signs or symptoms. Osteoporosis causes your bones to become weak more likely to break. Since it is a disease that can be prevented and treated, an early diagnosis can make a big difference. At any age, it is never too late to take steps to protect your bones and prevent fractures and broken bones.

A Bone Mineral Density Test using Dual Energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of the lumbar spine and hips is the most recommended and accurate method to detect osteoporosis. Postmenopausal women and men above the age of 50 should be considered for this test.
